As the aftershocks continue to hit, (including a magnitude-5.9 temblor that struck yesterday), we are continually reminded of the tremendous need in Haiti. Shortly after the massive earthquake struck Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th, Gospel Reggae artists from around the world began to rally support for the cause. Songstress Lynette White (Los Angeles, CA) started working with others to coordinate physical donations for the Red Cross. Mark Mohr and Avion Blackman (from Christafari) decided to help the effort with donations and support for the Salvation Army. Over ten years ago Christafari recorded a song in tribute to the Salvation Army on their WordSound&Power album called "Blood and Fire". "Christafari has had a relationship with the Salvation Army for years and we really believe in their ministry," Said Mohr, "They do such amazing work worldwide, all in the name of Jesus Christ. Whether they are feeding the homeless on skid row, trying to get addicts clean or aiding a natural disaster, they truly put their Christianity into action." ![]() "We combat natural disasters with acts of God"--The Salvation Army Leo-Tan (Netherlands) recorded a song for Haiti during this crisis. He posted the recording with a photo collage on YouTube. Check it out by clicking here. "My heart cries with Haiti," says Leo-Tan who was initially featured on the "Boomshots! Best of the Underground" CD. "I did this song as support for our bredren there. I pray that God will speed up their restoration, both spiritually and economically." Gospel reggae artist Zaccheus (NY) has family in Haiti that he is concerned about and still hasn't heard from. Please pray for them. To aid the country he decided to donate to www.yele.org, an organization lead by the Haitian-born Wyclef Jean. ![]() Kingdom Dub Entertainment is promoting a benefit concert for Haiti in Nassau, Bahamas on Friday January 29, 2010 @ 7:30pm at Faith Temple School. The admission is 4 canned goods. Artists on the roster include Mr. Lynx, DJ Counsellor, Landlord, Reubin Heights and many others. Other Gospel Reggae artists like Prettyfeet (Philippines), Timothy (Jamaica) and Songs of Solomon (NY) are also doing fundraising concerts. In Trinidad Gospel Reggae artists are participating in a massive Telethon. ACTS25/Cable channel 9 in collaboration with Citadel Ltd (I95.5FM, RED 96.7, HITZ 107.1) are running a whole week of telethons to raise support for Haiti. From the 23rd-26th, the entire Gospel music fraternity in Trinidad and Tobago will be ministering live on TV to raise support. Rodney Sammy-Guilarte, Managing Director of ACTS25 said, "Artists like Jadee, Isaac Blackman and the Love Circle, Mention, Koen Duncan, Sons of Zion, JSquare and many more are expected to perform." For more information call 868-652-4855 or log on to www.acts25tt.com from 3:00-11:00pm (EST+1) January 23-26th to view a streaming webcast. ![]() Many other artists have volunteered their support to the cause like Hawaiian gospel reggae ensemble Native Roots. They are donating all CD and download sales on GospelRegage.com through February 28th to Haiti. Buy one of their albums or download one of their MP3s today and your money will go towards a good cause. So what will you do? Haitians need your help now! The following ministries/organizations are already on the ground rushing emergency supplies to survivors of this catastrophe. In light of this recent tragedy, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to let taxpayers claim charitable deduction on 2009 tax returns for donations to Haiti relief. Please consider donating to one of the following Christian relief organizations today (or through your local church/ministry): The Salvation Army Food for the Hungry World Vision Samaritan's Purse ![]() "Is there not a cause?"
