This time around, Goddy has grown so much as an artist and producer and delivers an album that is in a league of its own.It's hard to find a weak spot on the album and that's saying a lot given the plethora of songs. Replete with 21 mind-blowing tracks, this LP is solid from beginning to end. It is a virtual all-you-can-eat buffet of gospel dancehall that is sure to satisfy even the most critical fan. Upon first listen I was shocked at how much this artist has grown in terms of vocals, production and lyrical flow. While he may bear the same name, he is not the same old Goddy Goddy that we have grown to love--he is new and improved! There are a bunch of big tunes on this disc such as the sobering "Evil Minds", the contagious "Christian a Christian", the Militant "Warn Dem", the cartoon-like "Satan Mek Mi So It" and the aggressive "Bind Dem". While many of the tracks on this incredible project are pure Jamaican dancehall, there are also some rootsy cuts such as "Let Jah People Go" featuring newcomer Dahlia Ashley. Other noteworthy songs include the culture stylings of "So Right," over Bob Marley's "Waiting in Vain" riddim, "Lift Him Up" Featuring Crissy D and Ryan Mark, "A Fi Go A Heaven" backed by the Katalys Crew and the explosive "What Can I Say?" with roots crooner Mr. Danny. This disc also includes several other animated collaborations with artists such as Omar, Kerryann Pinnock, Kareen and Prophecy. This album was executive produced by Minister Goddy Goddy (AKA Howard Reynolds) and released on his own imprint. Three of the tracks were produced by Goddy himself. For the rest of the songs he brought in a diverse set of skilled producers such as Dale "Dr. Dizzle" Virgo, Danny Brownie, Paul Barclay, Patrick Blaire, Canute Niel Ellis and Jermaine Edwards. Overall, this is an excellent package; from the photos to the artwork, the producing to the songwriting and the vocals to the guest appearances, this dancehall epic has everything that I hope for when I buy a dancehall album--and a whole lot more! We also carried back a box of CDs from our new favorite artist Nengo Vieira. We did a few shows with Nengo on our last tour and were floored by his music, distinct voice, and humble heart for Christ. Though we couldn't speak each other's language, through the help of a translator and a shared love for Reggae and Jesus we got along like family. It usually takes a lot to impress the finicky musicians of Christafari, but Nengo is one of those rare musical gems that is just brimming with talent. He floored us all after just one song! Nengo Vieira lives and breathes reggae and has been doing so for around three decades. Like many other gospel reggae singers, Nengo started off doing secular reggae, but in the mid nineties he came to Christ and since then he has arguably pioneered gospel reggae in Brazil. Now he is a musical minister at Bola De Neve in Santos, Brazil. When he is not leading worship in his home church, he is touring heavily throughout his beautiful country with his backing band and his wife and daughter as his background vocalists! On "Mata Atlantica", Nengo and his Tribo d' Abraao (Tribe of Abraham) join up with Bola music to give a definitive collection of roots songs that would make Marley roll over in his grave. This material IS roots reggae at its best. It doesn't get any tighter than this with organ and clavinet galore and round bass that will surely stretch out your sub woofers. This project is perfection squared. Every track on this 10 song LP is an instant classic that drips of authenticity and sounds like it was recorded in Tuff Gong Studios back in 1979. Though the majority of this album is in Portuguese and what I like to call "Brazinglish", great music transcends all linguistic barriers--and this is BETTER than great! This guy is a living legend.
