Official Bio
A heart of worship is what has motivated Zamar to become an uncompromising Instrument of Praise. Zamar aka Steve Stoddart began ministering at a young age, with brother Wayne in schools and churches across Jamaica. Over the years, this Jamaican artist realized that his purpose was to usher others into the presence of the Lord and minister the message of Jesus Christ, in a style of music that was relevant to his culture.
He started his recording career with a Jamaican gospel group called Beloved in 1998. He wrote all eleven tracks on that album "River of Life" and was featured as lead vocalist on some of the songs. He has appeared on several major gospel shows such as Fun in the Sun, Gospel Train, Genesis and Gospel in Motion during this period. Over the years Zamar has shared the stage with the likes of, Hezekiah Walker, Papa San, Stichie, DJ Nicolas, Chevelle Franklyn, Toby Mac, Change, and Trinity 5:7, Tony Rebel, Freddie Mc Greggor, George Nooks and many others.
Zamar began his solo career and has relocated to Canada where he now lives with his family. His first project as a solo artist, ‘Reggae Praise’ has been getting tremendous response and has the ability to reach both Christians and non-Christians alike. Zamar has been featured on several major shows. His strong performances and anointed ministry have led him to new heights. Currently one of the most sought after local talents, he continues to reach for higher ground. Reggae Praise has achieved record sales for a Gospel album locally since its release in June 2007 and was awarded 2008 Maja Award for best Reggae Recording. Zamar also received nominations at both the Covenant and Marlin Awards for the Reggae Praise album.
Zamar has vowed to continue to minister in song and word wherever the Lord leads. Zamar has reached out to the ordinary person on the streets for Christ with his easy going gospel roots reggae music.
Zamar has just released his second project "LIFE". Situations in life can break you, situations in life can take you, situations in life can bring joy and they can bring pain - but Zamar reminds us that LIFE can also make you into the precious gem that God intended you to be.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the LIFE.
Exclusive Interview with GospelReggae.com
GR: Tell me, how did your name come about? Any obstacles with it--funny mispronunciations, etc...?
Zamar: My name came about as a result of conducting praise and worship at my local church in Jamaica. I then realized that my purpose was to usher people into worship. As a result of this I was called Zamar which means “instrument of praise”.
GR: If you could share the stage with any Christian or secular artist in the world (living or dead) who would it be?
Zamar: Luciano
GR: I know that you have written a whole heap of songs in the past, but what's your favorite one? Now, if that is too hard for you to answer, then tell me this; if you spent 5 minutes with an avid reggae fan and only had enough time to play them one of your songs, which one would you play them?
Zamar: It would have to be my song “To me”.
GR: Read any good books lately?
Zamar: The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren
GR: What's your favorite verse in the Bible and why?
Zamar: Philippians 3 verse 10. I love this verse because it is my heart's desire.
GR: What career goal did you abandon for music?
Zamar: Resort Management
GR: What is the best audience that you have ever played in front of?
Zamar: Ocho Rios, Jamaica
GR: What country would you tour (even if you didn't get paid to perform)?
Zamar: I’d love to go to the continent of Africa
GR: What goes through your mind before you go onstage at the average show?
Zamar: Is my mind at the right state to minister to the hearts of the people?
GR: Do you prefer being in the studio or on the road??
Zamar: On the road
GR: Why do you do music? What is your primary goal?
Zamar: To make my contribution as a gospel reggae artiste in whole effort of bringing the music to the next level.
