Official Bio
When the Lord led Rico to form Shekinah Ministries Sound System in 1996 it was seen as very controversial because many Christians believed Reggae music had no place in the church and nor did a sound system playing with 18 inch speakers. Some Pastors told members of their congregation not to attend Shekinah outreaches for fear of being corrupted. But just as Jesus did not come for the righteous, Shekinah was not built for the Church! There were no qualms in going against the grain and breaking through barriers as far as the church was concerned.
After organizing a series of free outreaches in the city of Birmingham U.K., It soon became clear that Shekinah was tapping into something unique with regards to spreading the gospel. The fruits of this were many accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Presently the Sound System consists of four key members, Spanna (The Tool in God's Hand, Who is also a recording artist; Miller the Selecta; Brother Keith (The Poet) and Singing D, the singer who has been likened to the late Garnett Silk.
The Shekinah Sound System has played alongside top Gospel Reggae artists like Stitchie, Junior Tucker, Chevelle Franklyn and Judy Mowatt to name a few... They have also been privileged to link up with top secular sound systems like Stone Love from Jam Down and Luv Injection from the UK.
No matter what the occasion, Shekinah always seeks to promote the Love of Jesus Christ and have been truly blessed to have been the ones chosen to pioneer a move of Christian Sound Systems that gives God all the Glory while making a difference.
Exclusive Interview with GospelReggae.com
GR: What is the most valuable lesson that you learned from your Mom or Dad growing up that you still apply today?
Miller says: Be true to yourself, don't follow company.
GR: If you could share the stage with any Christian or secular artist in the world (living or dead) who would it be?
Bro. Keith says: Bob Marley because he is a reggae legend that people from all nations could identify with.
GR: I know that you have written a whole heap of songs in the past, but what's your favorite one? Now, if that is too hard for you to answer, then tell me this; if you spent 5 minutes with an avid reggae fan and only had enough time to play them one of your songs, which one would you play them?
Spanna says: to date I would say "Mummys prayers" off my album 'Blessed Redeemer' is my favorite song I've written as it acknowledges my mum continually praying for me while I was outside of Christ.
GR: What were the last 5 CDs that you put in your disc changer?
Spanna says: DJ Nicholas (On the Shout), Yow 3, Riddim Invasion 5, Reggaeton Baptism, and Papa San (Real & Personal).
GR: Read any good books lately?
Bro. Keith Says: Burden Of Freedom by Myles Munroe. I found the book to be very inspiring and encouraging
GR: What Bible character do you most identify yourself with?
Singing D says: Mary Magdalene because she was the first evangelist and just as I like preaching the gospel she did too in order to do the will of the Lord.
GR: Name something personal that gives you great satisfaction.
Singing D says: Photography, because I have always been interested in cameras since I was small and I enjoy taking pictures in order to capture great memories.
GR: What has been your highest moment?
Miller says: Seeing the souls that came to know Christ through attending Shekinah outreaches, because that was the whole purpose of the sound being built. To God be the Glory!
GR: What country would you tour (even if you didn't get paid to perform)?
Singing D says: I would love to tour the Caribbean and see all the fascinating islands I have grown up hearing so much about.
GR: What goes through your mind before you go onstage at the average show?
Bro. Keith says: Just to follow the leading of the spirit and not to minister in self.
GR: Do you prefer being in the studio or on the road??
Spanna says: I actually enjoy being in the studio and on the road because both give you invaluable experience.
GR: If you could whisper in the ears of youths aspiring to start a sound system ministry like yours, what would you say?
Miller says: speak the truth, trust in God and do not be afraid to upset people for righteousness sake.
