Official Bio
Also known as Minister Blessed, Matthew Blake was born on October 22nd, 1985 at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Raised in a Christian and musical environment, his involvement in music and acceptance of Christ came at an early age. Thus he spent years singing with school/church groups and choirs.
In 1995, he graced Jamaica's national arena with a solo via the group 'Ashe' during the Psalty Singing Song Book production. From there he continued the musical journey, as the Lord would allow.
Committed to a serious Christian walk, Matthew founded 'The Blessed Group' in 1999; and served as one of the group's two deejays. In 2001, the group entered and won the YFC deejay competition at all presented levels: 1) Regional (Bridgeport), 2) Parish (St. Catherine), and 3) National. They then went on to perform at several events including the then popular Gospel 'N' Motion & Genesis (2001).
In 2002, The Blessed Group disintegrated, but Matthew persisted by launching his solo career under the name 'Blessed'. Since then, he has ministered at notable events such as Xtreme Impact, Rise To Christ, Salvation PHD, C.I.A, Gospel N Motion, Genesis, and his annual concert - Operation Consecration. He has also shared the stage with artistes such as Papa San, Sherwin Gardner, Goddy Goddy, Prodigal Son, DJ Nicholas, Ryan Mark, Stitchie, Sister Scully, Moses and Mr.Gallimore.
In August 2005, Blessed teamed up with producer Dale 'Dr.Dizzle' Virgo to release his first single entitled 'Dandy Shandy'. Thereafter, he appeared on Virgo's two compilation projects with songs such as King Jesus Reigns (featuring Garfield Reid) on the Mainframe Riddim, and Problems + You A God which appear on the compilation CD 'Spirit Scription'. Recently (December, 2007), Blessed released his debut album entitled 'Purpose'. The album delves into the biblical analogy that everything happens for a reason, as God achieves His purpose for our lives. With 15 original tracks, Blessed takes gospel reggae to another level, spitting lyrics on dancehall, reggaeton, hip-hop, roots reggae and traditional rhythms.
After years of trials and experience, Blessed has emerged as one of Jamaica's more promising gospel artistes. More than entertainment - he's Minister Blessed!
