Exclusive Interview with GospelReggae.com
GR: Tell us about yourself, where you were born and grow up, what your family is like, etc...
Dr. Dizzle: I was born in Kingston, I grew up with my mom, cousins, and my dad lived with me until I was 7 years old. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister.
GR: How did you begin doing music?
Dr. Dizzle: I was firstly influenced by my father’s involvement with the military, and was exposed to marching bands at a very young age. In High School I started the school band and I managed the School’s Marching Band. I also started playing music at my church and learnt a lot from my pastor, Rev. Donovan D. Cole who is also a musical genius. After High School I got involved with my college band. At that time I started playing for artistes like Dj Nicholas, Ryan Mark and Jason Mighty, and others. Then I left university and enrolled for the Edna Manley College (Jamaica School Of Music), where I studio Caribbean, Latin & Jazz music, majoring in Drums.
GR: Tell me, how did your name come about? Any obstacles with it--funny mispronunciations, etc…?
Dr. Dizzle: My name, “Dr. Dizzle”, was initially a msn screen name. Being a computer genius, while in college, I used to build riddims while I am doing programming assignments whilst speaking on msn messenger to my friends. While artistes started coming by to listen to riddims they just started to call me Dizzle, so the name stuck on me.
GR: What is the most valuable lesson that you learned from your Mom or Dad growing up that you still apply today?
Dr. Dizzle: Be humble and honest
GR: What has been the greatest mistake that you have made in ministry and learned from? How have you used this experience to change the way you approach ministry?
Dr. Dizzle: Mixed business with friendship. Some artistes are selfish, some people are your friends to use you.
GR: If you could share the stage with any Christian or secular artist in the world (living or dead) who would it be?
Dr. Dizzle: Bob Marley
GR: I know that you have written a whole heap of songs in the past, but what's your favorite one? Now, if that is too hard for you to answer, then tell me this; if you spent 5 minutes with an avid reggae fan and only had enough time to play them one of your songs, which one would you play them?
Dr. Dizzle: Ceremony by Gamelliel
GR: Is there any song that you wrote in the past that you are embarrassed about? Anything that you wish you could make disappear?
Dr. Dizzle: yes a secular song, I cant even mention the name.
GR: What were the last 5 CDs that you put in your disc changer?
Dr. Dizzle: Israel & the New Breed, Timing by Jermaine Cowan, Tabernacle by Ryan Mark, Spirit Scription, Celebrate by Dahlia Ashley

GR: What's your favorite verse in the Bible and why?
Dr. Dizzle: John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
GR: What Bible character do you most identify yourself with?
Dr. Dizzle: Solomon, He was a genius!!!!!! David, He was a powerful man of God.
GR: What do you have to say about (or to) artists that started off in the Christian industry (CBA) doing gospel music and now sing secular (mainstream) with a watered down, or ambiguous message?
Dr. Dizzle: My Yute, Know Yuhself!!!!!
GR: As Christians, God is of course our true inspiration, but beyond the generic response of "Jesus," what are your muses in your life (for lack of a better word)? For example, what are the people, places, or things that trigger a fresh musical idea and ultimately a new song for you?
