Official Bio

Carlyle T. Myrie was born in Cross Keys, Manchester, Jamaica. He migrated to the U.S. at the age of 12.

As a youngster, Carlyle was exposed primarily to gospel and reggae music. His parents, devoted Christians, along with his six siblings frequently attended church and were there at least four times every week. At age 9, Carlyle received his first musical instrument, a guitar which was a gift from his parents. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, his guitar broke, however his spirit was not broken and his love and passion for music remained with him. After migrating to the U.S., Carlyle started playing different musical instruments such as the bass guitar, the drums and the keyboard. Carlyle focused primarily on the keyboard and he became very good at it that he was invited to play at church functions. At some of these functions, Carlyle was asked to sing and that was how his singing career began. This was short lived however; as Carlyle was awarded a college soccer scholarship at Tusculum college in Tennessee thus, his music career was put on hold.

After graduating from college, Carlyle moved back to the tri-state area and continued to play at church events and weddings. Carlyle has also had the opportunity to play at several concerts with a few local reggae artists on the East Coast. While traveling and playing with the reggae bands, he realized that something was missing, although he was playing reggae music his true calling was to play gospel music. While on the road, he prayed for guidance and for a breakthrough. Carlyle's prayers were answered. With his renewed spirit, Carlyle decided to serve the Lord through music. As a result, Carlyle rededicated his life to the Lord and the Lord has blessed him with his first album, "Give Thanks". His music is influenced by both Gospel and Secular artists.

Carlyle, a devoted Christian, plays every Sunday at his local church where he is also the music director. He is grateful for each day he is allowed on this earth and knows he was chosen to minister for the Lord.

Exclusive Interview with GospelReggae.com

1.GR: Tell us about yourself, where were you born and grow up, what your family is like, etc...

Carlyle:
I was born in Cross Keys, South Manchester, Jamaica, W.I. It is a small and quiet town on the country side. I am the last of seven children to my parents. We were not born into riches therefore at an early age we learned to love and care for each other and to appreciate what ever the Lord blessed us with.

2.GR: Tell me, how did your name come about? Any obstacles with it--funny mispronunciations, etc...?

Carlyle:
Our group name Chosen To Minister came about because of my initials which is CTM. We searched for a name and the two finalists were Chosen To Minister and Called to Minister. Then I remember what Matthew 22 v 7 says Many are called but few are chosen. Then I thought that we have been Chosen To Minister by God. There are two funny things about our group’s name. Many times when we are introduced or when people see "CTM they automatically think it stands for Called To Minister. The other funny thing is that when we shared the stage with Tye Tribbett last year in 2009, he introduced us as CMT." Then it seemed to be a domino effect... everybody was calling us CMT for a while. I guess we have some type of connection with the "Country Music Channel (CMT)".

3.GR: What is the most valuable lesson that you learned from your Mom or Dad growing up that you still apply today?

Carlyle:
No matter who or what you might think of an individual and what it might seem to you never to judge them, and to always do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

4.GR: If you could share the stage with any Christian or secular artist in the world (living or dead) who would it be?

Carlyle:
Pastor John P. Kee

5.GR: I know that you have written a whole heap of songs in the past, but what's your favorite one? Now, if that is too hard for you to answer, then tell me this; if you spent 5 minutes with an avid reggae fan and only had enough time to play them one of your songs, which one would you play them?

Carlyle:
I would play "Give Thanks" which is the title of my album. The reason is this song sums the album up and life itself because no matter what we face we must remember to always Give Thanks. I belief that when we do this we are expressing to God our trust in him and telling him I know you are in full control and you will not put more on me than I can bear.

6.GR: What's your favorite verse in the Bible and why?

Carlyle:
Philippians 4 v 13 "I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me." This verse is a reminder to me to never give up because no matter how hard or impossible something might seem, through Jesus Christ what seems impossible is possible to be done.

7.GR: What Bible character do you most identify yourself with?

Carlyle:
Joseph

8.GR: What do you have to say about (or to) artists that started off in the Christian industry (CBA) doing gospel music and now sing secular (mainstream) with a watered down, or ambiguous message?

Carlyle:
I just have to say I will pray for them but give them the word my pastor always says "Only one life will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last."

9.GR: What is your philosophy of stage ministry? Is there any one message that you always want to leave with your audience?

Carlyle:
Always to give my best because thats what the Lord requires. I want to leave with my audience to let go and let God.

10.GR: What country would you tour (even if you didn’t get paid to perfom)?

Carlyle:
Anywhere in Africa

11.GR: If you could whisper in the ears of youths aspiring to start a music ministry like yours, what would you say?

Carlyle:
No matter what, remember to always stay humble and put God first every step of the way.

12.GR: Could you please give a message to the reggae fans that are reading this and would like to know more about your faith and who Jesus is to you?

Carlyle:
To all the reggae fans out there, as the Bible says, "Seek first the kingdom of God." I believe that Jesus shed his blood to forgive us of our sins, all we need to do is to ask Him into our lives and it will give us hope that if we abide in Him we will live with Him some day. Let us in our daily lives remember to put Jesus first no matter what roadblocks life presents. Jesus will be our guide and deliverer. God Bless.
