ALBUM DESCRIPTION
From Melchizedek Music comes the highly anticipated fifth release from Zema (pronounced Zay-mah). "Overcome" is strictly roots reggae featuring all live instrumentation. Replete with ten tracks of pure one-drop delight and three sweet dubs, this album was made with the conscious roots reggae lover in mind.
"Overcome" was recorded at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica with some of Jamaica's finest singers and players of instruments such as; Sly and Robbie, The Gladiators, Horsemouth (drums), Danny Thompson (bass), Dalton Browne (guitar & background vocals), Sticky (percussion), and Ansel Collins (keyboards). There are three vocal duets on "Overcome"; the Motown classic "Stoned Love" featuring Abijah, Son and Daughter of Jah featuring the classic voice of Al Griffiths from the Gladiators and "Don't Give Up" featuring Mark Wonder. Errol Brown, Shane Brown, Sylvan Morris and Dalton Browne mixed this album.
Reggae archivist Roger Steffens described Zema's sound as "healing music for the 21st century." On "Overcome," she once again showcases her talents as singer, songwriter, arranger and producer. As a devout Messianic Jew, she also reveals her deep Christian faith that is reflected in all 13 cuts of potent conscious roots reggae and dub.
Described as one of today's most popular female roots reggae vocalists, Zema continues to "Overcome" in a primarily male-dominated genre with her strongest vocal performance to date. On her newest CD, this California roots daughter (who has recently relocated to Kingston, Jamaica) collaborates with the crÃï¿1⁄2ï¿Â1⁄2ïÿÃÂ1⁄2Ãï¿1⁄2ï¿Â1⁄2Ãï¿1⁄2ème of the crop in general market reggae scene to bring us an album drenched in authenticity and soaked in spirituality.
