| This is classic roots reggae. When I saw that the some of the original Gladiators band comprised the group on this album, I figured that their involvement would make this CD a quality one. I wasn't wrong. The Gladiators have been one of the powerhouses of reggae music over the years and one of my all time favorite reggae outfits. I have loved the consistent, solid roots reggae sound that they have produced, along with the masterful and meaningful lyrics that is part of their DNA. This album is joyful and yet typical of the Gladiator's approach, being full of meaning and teaching about life. At times I feel that Zema's voice (Is Zema the main female vocalist?) might lend itself more favorably to another musical genre such as country or pop, such is her style. But overall, the mix of authentic instruments without techno-dabbling - keeping it simple with drums, guitars, horns, keys etc, along with the vocals, especially of the Gladiators - make this an enjoyable piece. There is no doubt that the Gladiators play a large part in the ultimate success of this CD. I'm glad I bought this album. It's a worthwhile addition to my reggae collection. | |||||||||||||||||||
