ALBUM DESCRIPTIONBack in 2005, producer-extraordinaire DJ Frost gave us Streetlight Mixtape Volume One. To be honest, at first I was a bit apprehensive. I wasn't sure how a fast paced authentic mixtape with all the bells and whistles (or rather sirens), would fly on this side of the Caribbean. Sure mixtapes run things back-a-yard (Jamaica), but how would one do in a digital age with our discriminate buyers? IT BLEW UP! In a matter of days Streetlight Volume 1 became our best selling album from the Lion of Judah Crew and it still remains to this day. The hype continued with Volume Two. Though it was missing some of the foundational artists of the first installment (Lynx and Sherwin), it introduced us to a new generation of gospel reggae artists like Troy Anthony and St. Matthew. This CD also flew off the shelves. And then there was silence...(insert crickets here).
We have been holding our breathes in anticipation for two years now hoping for the mother of all mixtapes. Wait no longer, it is finally here! DJ Frost is back in fine style, sure to reclaim his throne with a healthy mix of roots, culture, dancehall, hip-hop and even worship. I am proud to announce that Mr. Lynx also returns for this third installment, as do Monty G, Troy Anthony, St. Matthew, Firekid, Avalanchee, Dane-Jah-rus, Reubin Heights, Mighty One and a trailer-load of other Lion of Judah mainstays. Other noteworthy additions this year are Kristine Alicia, Emrand Henry, Jumelle, Mr. Danny, Dano Rolle and Trinidadian newcomer Positive.
Trading in his cliche air siren for a host of new sound effects and movie quotes, Frost keeps the pace moving on this 46-track gem. He takes us on a musical journey of familiar gospel reggae riddims like Monty's Archangel (I Want to Know), to the Secular Playlist riddim (Think "Flex" or "Boom Bye Bye"). From there we venture into hip-hip and then are blessed with short sets by Monty, Avalanchee, Dane-Jah-Rus, Reubin and Mighty One. No Streetlight would be complete without Frost's no-holds-barred approach to remixes. This time around the winner in the remix category goes to "No One" with Monty G and yes, Alicia Keys! DJ Frost has done it again! Order your copy today! |
