ALBUM DESCRIPTION
2006 was a huge year for St. Matthew: he was featured on countless compilation CDs, contributed to albums from Gospel Reggae heavy weights such as Troy Anthony, Monty G, and Mr. Lynx, and released two of his own Mixtapes. Now, with the "Trilogy Mixtape," St. Matthew is blazing more fire in 2007 with his hottest mixtape yet. This time around, St. Matthew still executes his hardcore mix of hip-hop beats and thick patois dancehall flow, but also makes room for a whole heap of roots reggae tracks.
Kicking off this 22 track mixtape is "Jah Blessed Me" feat. Troy Anthony. Over a smooth hip-hop/R&B riddim Troy Anthony croons about God's blessing of the gift of life while St. Matthew utilizes a gruff delivery to sing verses of gratefulness to God. Monty G helps light up "Christian Soldiers" as he exchanges energetic verses with St. Matthew. With Garnet Silk's voice gracing the chorus, this song simply couldn't be better.
With so many songs on this mixtape, it's easy to get lost, but make no mistake- this mixtape has absolutely no filler songs. Instead, St. Matthew gives strictly his best with hip-hop/dancehall tracks such as "Read It Up," "Dem Don't Know," "Love Is Great," "Hour Glass," and "When I Was Down."
Roots fans are sure to love hearing St. Matthew's flow on songs such as "Wise Up," "Dry Your Eyes feat. Reena Myers," "Down In Your Heart," "Gospel Defenda," and "When I Was Down."
With his "Trilogy Mixtape," St. Matthew has done it again, delivering a hot new mixtape featuring some of the best names in Gospel Reggae. This mixtape will certainly satisfy more roots fans than his last two and is a great addition to his catalog.
