ALBUM DESCRIPTION

It is incredible how much the genre of gospel reggae has grown over the years! The Reggae Sunday Service series is a testament to the leaps and bounds that this burgeoning genre has taken. A few years ago it was almost impossible to comprehend a seventh or eighth installment of a compilation series. This dream is now a reality thanks to hundreds of hardworking artists and quality labels like UK based Jet Star.

This album has a slow start with "Stand Up for Jesus" (Dorrett Goodridge), which is followed by a unique cover of Kanye West's "Jesus Walks". Why is this song on a gospel reggae album? After this is the contemporary roots bubbler "My Lord and Saviour," by reggae legend Judy Mowatt. Next up is another roots tune featuring the gruff vocal of George Banton boldly proclaiming that "God Is Still on the Throne," a concept we all need to be reminded of on a daily basis.

Other stand-out songs include the soothing "Rock of Ages" by the soulful Hensley King (my personal favorite). Track seven is a focal point for me as it features Carlene Davis singing with non other than reggae veteran Ken Booth! I have been a Ken Booth fan for years so I was particularly interested in hearing Ken sing for Jesus! After this George Nooks blesses us with a digital roots version of the classic "Lean on Me." Next up is "Weapon" featuring the singjay stylings of Oliver Ashley, a song heavily inspired by the classic "Bam Bam by Chaka Demus and Pliers/Sister Nancy.

Osmond Collins has proven time and time again to be one of the most consistent artists in this album series. He delivers the goods again on the meditative "Thank you for my Jesus". Rounding off the album is the deep baritone voice of Denzil Dennis and Norris Weir's unique interpretation of "You're Gonna Lose", a tune recently made popular by UB40 (Things You Say You Love).

It's a joy to have this series continue and the seventh installment will certainly enhance any Gospel reggae fan's collection. Pick up your copy today for an incredibly low price!
