ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Back in the early 90's was the first time that I recall hearing the original queen of dancehall, Miss Shelly Thunder. After a life-changing conversion to Christ, this "Small Horse Woman," (best known for her Man fi get "Kuff" song and "Fresh Out of The Pack" release, 1989), is still as fresh and relevant as ever. After making a few appearances on various compilation albums by the likes of Prodigal Son and Katsjam, Shelly has finally launched her own New York based label with impressive results.
On "Souljahs For Christ," the labels debut project, Yankee B (featured on Raggamuffin Hip Hop 1 and 2), Sistar Roze, and legendary dancehall deejay Shelly Thunder (featured on Yow 3 and Roots Gospel Vol. 1) bring nuff' dancehall vibes with one clear inspiration: Jesus Christ!
With 18 songs, "Souljahs For Christ," is packed with more than enough tracks to satisfy fans of Dancehall Gospel. Yankee B always rises to the occasion, and his contributions here are no exception. Tunes like "Abraham" and "Marry Her" exemplify his talents over both roots and dancehall riddims. Yankee B's live version of "Be Like Christ," is easily the most exciting song on the entire project!
Shelly Thunder and Sistar Roze also represent with big tunes such as "Salvation Story," "The Race," "Hallelujah," and "Gospel Medley." Also featured on this project are Anthony Wright with "Jesus," Dunamis with "Him Nuh Believe Say," Nathaniel with "Jesus Is On My Mind," and Joan Myers with "Calvary."
"Souljahs For Christ," is a great new release for dancehall fans, and should satisfy roots lovers as well. As to be expected, the messages are always Christ centered and touch on topics that are relevant to today's church. Grab your copy today to get the newest songs from these excellent artists!
