ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Following the successful Reggae Worship series pioneered by Christafari, Lion of Zion Entertainment has set out to take praise and worship to a whole new level with the contemporary roots reggae and urban dancehall praise album aptly titled To the King. With a sound like no other, this dynamic release contains seventeen unique musical tracks that truly capture the attitude of gratitude all Christians are challenged to live by.
First used to describe a Jamaican musical style in 1968 by Toots and the Maytals, "Reggae," (which is said to derive from the Latin word "Regis"), literally means "to the king." We chose to use this title because it is an exact description of the musical genre this project represents, and makes clear whom we praise--Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
To the King stirs up the soul by whipping together the juiciest reggae rhythms, blending in powerful praise melodies, and topping them with the year's best-selling gospel reggae artists. To the King exhibits the sonic variety found in our Dancehall Baptism, Raggamuffin Hip Hop, and Reggae Redemption Songs compilations, while adding a strong praise and worship focus. Chock-full of hits that are ripe for spiritual nourishment, this compilation offers a succulent variety of styles to satisfy roots reggae, dancehall, and praise & worship fans alike.
This clever blend of smooth singing, together with signature deejay vocals create a diverse and up-to-date dancehall/culture praise album packed with infectious melodies and heart-felt lyrics of praise. To The King includes songs from top Caribbean artists such as Sherwin Gardner, Monty G, and Tiko & Gitta to name a few, and all set out to energize the vibes ebbing from your speakers. However, this is more than mere entertainment. To sing along with these contagious tracks is to praise the Lord in a new and refreshing way. It's modern reggae praise at its best!
While the majority of today's reggae is directed towards the worship of the late king Haile Selassie (Rastafari), most, if not all of reggae's top artists/pioneers began their musical careers in the Christian church. With this new compilation series, it is our desire to take reggae songs of praise back to their true foundation. With To the King, we hope to direct more wayward counter-culture youths towards King Jesus and give Christians some variety within the praise & worship music genre.
